YOU are invited! Join Scouting! - Wednesday, August 25, 2010

           WELCOME!

It could happen to your family. You're just minding your own business when it's mentioned during supper that Scouts might be kind of fun. (It is, it's really fun!)

Join Scouting? Maybe the idea first came from a mention in the church bulletin. Maybe there was somebody in a Scout uniform at school during Open House with a flyer about joining. Or, some other "uniformed" person came to school to tell the class all about "putting the outing in scouting.". It doesn't matter how the idea was delivered. Somebody at your house heard from somebody somewhere that is was O.K. to show up at a Scout meeting.

Now, most stories full of somebody this and somewhere that are real short on facts. But the strange thing about this story? It is  . .

T R U E!

YOU are invited to join Scouting!

Be part of a Pack, Troop, or Crew  :)

You don't have to be an exact age or so many inches tall, like you're going on a wild rollercoaster. YOU can join America's 100-year-old "good guys club." Actually, you should be kindergarten age to become a Lion Cub. And there are all kinds of age groups after that, so you would definitely fit in. Joining Scouts is not a hard thing to do.

Would you like to know more about getting involved with Scouting? Click here to look at a list of Trailblazer Scout units for all ages. This list has names of scouters and their phone numbers or email addresses to start the process. Give a call, drop'em a line, and find out where and when a scouting group gathers in your area or neighborhood. Drop by and check out a meeting. Or, send Trailblazer's Membership Chair Rhonda Christoffers a note and you'll find out how to become part of Scouting, a great American tradition.

You'll find lots of fun and friends in the Scouting community.

Come on! We'd really like to meet you.

Jamboree Details - Monday, August 23, 2010

Can you spell  R-I-N-K-A-B-Y?

Is Rinkaby fun and legal?

If you answered, "Yes" to both questions, you qualify to know more about 2011's

WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE!

Rinkaby in southern Sweden July 27 - August 7, 2011 becomes home to 30,000+ Scouts from six continents and 114 countries during the 22nd World Scout Jamboree.

Yes, R-I-N-K-A-B-Y is the location. It's also the time and place for making life-long connections with people from around the globe who, like you, value the principles of Scouting's Oath and Law.

...and it's been done before. Twice before. The last two National Jamborees took place on the fields of Rinkaby in Sweden, which is not all that far from Copenhagen, Denmark. These folks know how to do a Jamobree up right!

Cost? Oh, it's significant. The $3,750. payment covers Jamboree fees, the plane ride, FOOD, the tent over your head, and other equipment. Expect to spend additional dollars for uniform requirements, pre-Jamboree camp fees, a passport, and mementos of the trip.

Even considering currency differences, you may or may not feel better about Jambo costs when comparing our fees with payments for scouts from down under. From the Australian Jamboree FAQ page: "What does it cost and what is the payment schedule? $6550 for 3 weeks, plus approx $1600- $1800 for the 1 week post Jamboree optional tour."

There are Scout-like expectations for behavior at Rinkaby as well. A Code of Conduct, a Statement of Understanding, a Payment Schedule, and Medical Requirements must be agreed to and followed.

Acting like a Scout. Is this a Big Deal? Probably NOT. BSA standards are nothing new to Trailblazer scouts and following the Scout Oath and Law is no different when you're in Sweden.

To take part in an event this exciting requires a lot of planning. Start by gathering information, knowing you're going to Sweden to sleep in a tent next July. Know you'll spend many days with some of the finest folks on the planet. Here are some links to begin the Jambo Journey:

A YouTube video . . about preparing Rinkaby

"In this movie, you are introduced to some of the preparations for the 22nd World Scout Jamboree camp site in Rinkaby, Sweden. Roads, electricity, water supply, communications and other forms of infrastructure are prepared for the jamboree in 2011."

Fall Camporee - Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Trailblazer's Fall scouting outing continues a 100-year-old tradition of boys growing together in positive ways through outdoor activity!

THE AMAZING SCOUT RACE!

Trailblazer's Fall Camporee

October 1st, 2nd, & 3rd

Buffalo Lake Park, Chippewa County

Friendly, fun competition between Patrols . . Doing your best, helping each other, and smiling win or lose . . That's what The Amazing Scout Race is all about.

You really should be there, October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, at Buffalo Lake County Park west of Willmar in Chippewa County.

Troops register beginning at 5 o'clock Friday evening, October 1st. Remember to fill those water jugs as all troops need to bring water for the weekend. Setting up patrols with similar numbers for fun and fair play means planning now and registering early. Just click here for the registration form . . and make out a check for $10-per-scout to the Northern Star Council. Adults pay $5; non-competing Webelos, $3. Please email registration forms to Ryan Wilfahrt.

What's this RACE-thing about?

Saturday, October 2nd, patrols of six, seven, or eight scouts compete for fame and scout glory in ten different sessions that test both physical and mental skill. Some of the stations you'll encounter are "Of Course!," "Knot Funny," "Who Knew?," "Keep or Toss?," "Flip It!," and "Smash Mouth." With names like that, these events have to be a good time.

Be prepared! Practice your patrol cheer / yell . . and remember to bring your patrol flag. Groups with fewer than six scouts or more than eight members can expect to be reorganized for fair play. After all, if patrols are very close to the same size, everyone has a more equal chance for fun and success. September 27th is the deadline for changing or adjusting patrol members.

Second-year Webelos are invited as day visitors, fulfilling an Arrow of Light Requirement, but will not be competing. Older Webelos are very welcome to come along and help as station assistants . . and will be recognized for their efforts.

Questions should be directed to host Troop 432 with a call to Don Broberg (320-235-0766) or Chad Claude (320-222-4630).
